What is Inventory Management?

CableSolve is a powerful Total Lifecycle Inventory Management tool.

By allowing attributes to be customised by our customers (details of each piece of equipment), CableSolve can be used to not only track the relevant details of every piece of equipment on site, but also its location, history of changes and locations where the equipment has been deployed though it's life cycle.

A short description and videos of the new features are shown below. Please contact Avantex directly for further information or to organise a demonstration:

Customisable attributes
(aka fields)

CableSolve can store an infinite number of attributes (also known as fields) for any piece of equipment, space or cable in the database.
Organisations are not locked in to what we believe are the correct attributes, but have full flexibility to name and define their own.

This can greatly assist in keeping to an existing naming convention and may also assist in the data being exchanged between multiple products (ie, Remedy, HP Openview, Aperture, Excel)

Manage MAC's via Hand Held computers

One of the most useful tools in the CableSolve is the addition of Hand Held barcode scanners.

Changes to your infrastructure can be managed where and when they happen. Once the details have been updated, the hand held can be synchronised with the main database either via a docking station, or wirelessly.

With the addition of floor plans (that are identical to what is on the CableSolve desktop client, organisations can enable their staff to work much more efficiently.

Additional tools such as Auditing and Reporting fully enable your staff to have the power at their fingertips.

History of Changes

To ensure that your staff knows what has happened to the inventory, CableSolve records all changes to the database.

Changes such as location, serial number, name, asset tag, barcode or any attribute will be recorded in the history tab.

The history includes the user who performed the change and also the date and the time. By simply clicking on the history tab, all the relevant details will be 'filtered' to only show for that particular component, greatly increasing the productivity.

Security of attributes

The attributes for all of the equipment in your organisation can be ‘locked down’, so only the users with the correct permission can change their details.

Further, attributes can be made ‘invisible’ if certain groups or users are not supposed to be privy to the information (i.e. financial data).

As an example, the iLO2 username and password could be locked so that was only visible to the 'server' group of users. Furthermore, the 'Purchase Order' attribute could be locked so that only the accounts group could edit the contents, all others would only have Read Only access.

Security by Zoning

Any area of the CableSolve database can be 'zoned', to only allow users with the correct permission access to the relevant data.

Zones can consists of entire countries, states, suburbs, floors, rooms, a rack, or even a single piece of equipment.

The Zone creation tool follows similar Microsoft security ‘group’ policies for ease of setup and maintenance.

Combining the Zone security with Attribute security, the entire database can be locked down to suit multiple functional and logical working groups, from enterprise wide firms, to single site locations.

What are the Business Benefits?

By using a tool such as CableSolve to track your inventory, organisations are able to:

  • Understand the physical location of all equipment
  • Produce fast and accurate audits (for internal or external purposes)
  • Track changes to equipment, where and when they happen
  • Reduce man-hours in locating where your equipment is located, or have been relocated from
